I think this article is probably right in describing the trend line for production of electric vehicles. Where electric vehicle production may be going, however, doesn't matter much to the individual shopping for an electric car.

I bought a 2017 Bolt when it was car of the year. Tesla had not produced its promised $35,000 Model S and never really did. I think Chevy has done a horrible job of promoting and supporting the Bolt, but I still drive a car that was car of the year three years ago. It has all the things that electric cars promise: torque, range, affordability, and reliability.

A consumer is tasked with picking out a winner from the ever-changing menu of electric vehicles. The choices only get better as time passes, and I have my doubts whether GM will be a major player in the future. However, at one time it produced best electric car that didn't have a luxury car price and people who got one got lucky.
