My sister was in high school when her calculus teacher called my mother (Teachers all knowing each other). My sis had gotten A's on all her tests but hadn't turned in any homework all term. My mother confronted her. My sister defended on the grounds that homework was stupid. They showed you how to do the problem AND THEN sent you home to do it. What was the point? They'd already showed you how. There was nothing to figure out.
