The economics of the gas station and charging station are different. When I drove gas, I regularly gassed up at a station that was owned and maintained by a family that lived in my community. Now that I drive electric, all my local charging is done in my garage. The only time I use charging stations is when I am on a long trip. There is no local business at charging stations--at least where I live. All of it is from travelers passing through, and there aren't that many of those. Thus, there no local family, making a living off making sure the charging station is maintained and running smoothly. The difference is significant.
